Riots in Brussels following Belgium's World Cup defeat to Morocco, several detained


Sunday's riots in Brussels caused by Morocco's shocking 2-0 World Cup victory against Belgium in Qatar, An estimated 35,000 people protested against the harsher coronavirus measures that were implemented to stop the fourth wave on Sunday in the streets of Brussels. Riots that broke out along the demonstration's edges caused significant damage to the city's infrastructure and led to numerous arrests.
The rioters set fire to the public highway and used fireworks, missiles, and sticks.
"Furthermore, fireworks struck a journalist in the face, causing facial injuries. These factors led to the decision to move through with a police intervention, including the use of tear gas and the deployment of water cannons, according to the police. Police spokesman Ilse Van de Keere stated,, "Around 7 p.m. calm restored and precautionary patrols are still in place in the sectors in question."
The riots were sharply denounced by the mayor of Brussels, Phillipe Close, who also requested that the police examine video from security cameras to find those responsible.
