In their Round of 16 match at the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2022, played on Saturday at the Khalifa International Stadium in Qatar, Netherlands defeated USA 3-1 to advance to the quarterfinals.
Memphis Depay put Netherlands on the board first with a goal-bound shot from within the box. Daley Blind scored Netherlands' second goal just before halftime to give his team a 2-0 lead. In the second half, Haji Right scored a goal for the USA to give the crowd some optimism. But only a few minutes later, Denzel Dumfries made it 3-1 for the Netherlands with his first goal of the competition. USA lost the game 1-3 because they were unable to mount a late comeback.
