Olivier Giroud broke the French record for goals scored and Kylian Mbappe scored a stunning double as France defeated Poland 3-1 in the World Cup's round of 16. Before the half, Mbappe sent a pinpoint pass to Giroud, who smashed it past a diving Wojciech Szczesny to score his 52nd goal for Les Bleus. Despite France's constant pressure, they were unable to break down a resilient Poland defense. France, the current world champions, kept up the pressure after the break, and Giroud nearly added a second goal when he glanced Jules Kounde's cross just past the near post.in the 74th minute Mbappe doubled the lead with a terrific strike in the top-corner to make it 3-0 for France.Poland was able to retain some of its honor thanks to a late Robert Lewandowski penalty, but France advanced to the quarterfinals.
