Brazil's head coach Tite resigns following Brazil's World Cup loss to Croatia
After Brazil's shocking elimination by Croatia in the World Cup quarterfinals, head coach Tite resigned from his position. On Friday, Croatia defeated Brazil in the quarterfinals, winning 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw after extra time. Just before halftime in extra time, Neymar scored a fantastic goal to give Brazil the lead. With 120 minutes remaining, Bruno Petkovic's headed goal tied the score. In the shootout, Croatia scored all four of its penalty kicks, ensuring Zlatko Dalic's team advanced to a second straight World Cup semi-final. Rodrygo and Marquinhos both missed their spot kicks.
Tite made his resignation from his position public back in February, indicating that he was prepared to take on a new task. After taking over for Dunga in June 2016, he held the position for six years, however he later said he will leave after the Qatar tournament.
Tite, 61, says he "goes in peace" after six years as Brazil manager.
"It is very difficult," added Tite, who won 61 of his 81 games in charge of Brazil, losing seven.
"I said I needed to have the full cycle and now I have the full cycle and have followed the moments."
I am not in a position now to evaluate all the work we have done, but as time passes, you will be able to make that decision, he responded when asked if he had left a legacy.
After guiding Brazil to the World Cup quarterfinals, where they fell to Belgium, they went on to win the 2019 Copa America. But his final year in charge was a failure, with the team losing the Copa America final in 2021 and then exiting the World Cup.
