Argentina beat Netherlands on penalties following an incredible Dutch comeback

In a nail-biting 2-2 stalemate that lasted 120 minutes, Lionel Messi and his team defeated the Netherlands in the World Cup quarterfinal, winning 4-3 on penalties.
Lionel Messi gave Argentina a 2-0 lead in the second half with a goal and an assist .However Van Gaal's Netherlands squad rallied from a 2-0 deficit to 2-2 by two late goals from Wout Weghorst, in a thrilling and remarkable performance that came tantalizingly close to the most deserving of victories. The game went into a penalty shootout because none of the two sides was able to raise their score in the extra time. Argentina eventually won the penalty shootout 4-3 thanks to some excellent saves from Emiliano Martinez. 
Argentina will now face Croatia in semi-final.
