Soon after, Alvarez ran the length of the field with the ball before utilizing a favorable deflection to shoot past the goalkeeper and make it 2-0. With just over 20 minutes left, Messi dribbled past Josko Gvardiol and cut back for Alvarez to score, assuring a straightforward end to this semifinal.
Messi became the South American powers' all-time leading goal scorer in the history of the championship game with his fifth tournament goal in Qatar.
With this victory, the Lionel Messi-led team has advanced directly to the tournament's championship match, where they will play either France or Morocco. Croatia, led by Luka Modric, is out after the defeat; they will now play with the team who lose in the second semi-final for the third place.
